Last weekend I spent a little time in one of the gardens at the Fenimore Farm in Cooperstown, watching the bees busily gathering pollen and enjoying the effects of the late summer light on the flowers.
The light this time of year is starting to differentiate itself from the humid summer months. The sun is a little lower in the sky than it was mid-summer. The light has a crisper look to it, and can result in slightly more contrast than a few weeks earlier.
Taking time to really look at these flowers, you can see the textures in the petals. The ribbing and the curled ends stand out more when the color is removed from the image.
The symmetry in the radial design of the flowers is repeated from petal to petal, and from one flower to the next. The geometric design of these creations stands out more when bright colors are not dominating the image.
The perfection of these flowers was highlighted once the color was removed.
Some, however, were moving on, past their peak. These show just how fragile and temporary they really are.
