The last racers of the day were leaving the track.
I turned to go, but I stopped to take another look around.
I almost missed this old tree among all the color and activity. At the top of the hill, with nothing but the sky behind it. I don’t know if it turned early and dropped all of its leaves, or if it had died and they were never there this season.
There was no bright color around it, only dull brush and scrub. But the shape was the tree's character. It had to be black and white.
It’s the shape I will be looking for when the snow comes.
