Not exactly new on the market at this point, but Fujifilm has updated their 16-55 f2.8 zoom lens, and I finally saved up enough to spring for one. It came this week and I have been able to get out and take a few images with it. Not an extensive test yet, but I have some initial opinions.
First, it is light. I’ve been using the 16-80 f4 kit lens for a little over 2 years now, and the 16-55 compares well. It’s weighing in at 14.5 oz compared to the 16-80 that weighs around 15.5 oz. Part of the difference is that the 16-80 has image stabilization of course.
The new 16-55 f2.8 lens is about 11mm shorter and about 37% lighter than the original.
So here are some additional specs to note on the 16-55 f2.8 mark ii. The filter size is 72mm, the minimum focal distance is 11.8”, and the lens is weather-resistant.
So far this lens paired with the Fujifilm X-T5 is well-balanced and seems to perform well. I’ll do some more in-depth comparisons to the 16-80 if there is any interest. But for now, I am enjoying shooting with this lens. And based on my initial experience with it, I think it’s going to be spending a lot of time on my camera. Here are a couple shots from my first outing. Keep watching my account for more.
